Restoring The Clash of the Titans on Sarasota Bayfront

Over looking the waters of Sarasota Bay, The Titans, a powerful copper sculpture by the late Jack Cartlidge, has been restored. Cartlidge and Colson Architectural Arts has refinished and patinated this iconic work of art so that it is preserved for future generations.

Jack Cartlidge, a Sarasota sculptor known for his expressive and dynamic creations, crafted The Titans as a powerful representation of the struggle of good versus evil. The sculpture’s intricate copper forms, depicting a dramatic battle of mythical proportions, had suffered from years of exposure to Sarasota’s coastal climate. Corrosion, oxidation, and structural wear had threatened the integrity and aesthetic impact of this beloved piece.

Understanding the significance of The Clash of the Titans, Cartlidge and Colson Architectural Arts took on the project of meticulously restoring the sculpture. The restoration process involved thorough cleaning to remove accumulated oxidation and applying specialized protective patinas to safeguard the copper against the harsh marine environment.

Now fully restored, The Clash of the Titans stands proudly on the Sarasota Bayfront. This restoration not only revitalizes an important piece of Sarasota’s public art but also reaffirms the city’s dedication to preserving its rich cultural heritage.
